The piece they wound up picking was of the vampire Lord Ruthven with his dirty paws on a lady.

Well, This Hasn't Seen the Light of Day in Some Time...

So about 3 years ago I graduated from the decent art institution known as the Rhode Island School of Design from their Film/Animation/Video department. Concentrating in Animation, I completed a short my senior year. If you stalk me, you'd know the piece is JERSEY TRANSIT. Now, I don't HATE the short, but it is what it is – college crap.

Originally, the backgrounds of JERSEY TRANSIT weren't as "abstract" as they appeared in the completed piece. With the guidance of my professors, they pushed to delete all aspects of a traditional train car and instead rely on the characters and sounds involved with the piece. Now sure, it's an interesting idea just to have the characters in the space and bank on the sound design to define the train car, but unfortunately it just didn't mesh well when I got my grubby hands on the idea. Sometimes you just need a damn place to sit.

So observe, the first pass stills of JERSEY TRANSIT (I know you've been waiting for this day) in its raw, unanimated glory. They're a bit heavy on Photoshop brushes, but if I continued this route, I think the idea would have eventually looked pretty neato.

And the final piece as it was seen by my 22 year old peers.

Back in late August I was a Producer for a short mini-doc called HEAR TO THE FUTURE, commissioned by the Center for Hearing & Communication (CHC) in NYC. The film premiered at their Centennial Gala at 583 Park Avenue October 18th to help raise money for the organization (CHC was graciously donated over $1 million that night!). Hey cool cats. I'm back in action letting ya'll know that Keryn Thompson has some mighty fine projects in the works.

First off, I was hired to do PR for a company called The Kitchen Yogi. They produce cookie cutters in the shapes of yoga poses. They're pretty adorable. I insist on purchasing a few.

Second, I started my own company, Helmet Bunny. HB is a NJ-based blog devoted to a more alternative lifestyle, focusing all sorts of swell stuff happening within the Great Garden State and beyond. First off, I've started my own biz with my buddy Kate. Its called Helmet Bunny, and for right now that's all you get to know.

Next, TOE TO TOE's last night at Village East Cinema is tomorrow. So any east coasters who haven't seen it, GO BUY A DAMN TICKET. The film was extended an extra week which is AWESOME. Tomorrow is the LA premiere at Laemmle's Sunset 5, which unfortunately I am unable to attend. The Washington, DC premiere is April 2nd at E Street Theater and there's going to be a blowout after-party. For almost two years now I've been working on this film! So awesome to see things like A.O. Scott's review in the New York Times and for it to be considered a Critics' Pick!

Finally, I've been commissioned to revamp a Flash website for a specialty foods company called H&H based in Red Bank, NJ. When its completed I'll post a link on my blog.

Season's greetings! I've gone for a whole month without posting anything. I'm sorry for this. I actually have nothing exciting to show ya that I've been working on, but will let you in on my Princeton public access appearance!

A few days ago I was asked to appear and talk about my nude lady drawinz with another female artist. She had to pull out so I recommended a high school friend of mine, Richie Brown. Richie is a Toms River native as well and I honestly can say he is the only dudester I know who's work I can appreciate from the area (most peeps be drawin' sailboats and odd child portraiture). Richie's illustrations are so much fun and I'd definitely take a gander at them over at his blog.

Anywho, I don't really remember the taping. It all seems like a blur. I do know however, I managed to talk about lipstick feminism, female bodybuilders and Disney concept artist, Mary Blair. I'm not sure if this is a good thing. Maybe Keryn Thompson is not quite prime time ready?

National Keryn Thompson Birthday Day

Today is my birthday... praise me.

As today is the day of my birth, I will post whatever I please. And so I have decided to promote something other than myself.

Jennifer's Body. Laugh. Seriously, laugh. The film, which isn't Norma Rae, is by far one the most enjoyable new films I've seen in awhile. And it bombed, real bad. The film brought in just under $7 million this weekend at the box office and came in number 5, right behind Love Happens. The film is being torn apart by critics. Even Fangoria, the horror magazine that gives fives skulls to the biggest heaping pile of straight-to-video shit executive produced by Tom Savini this fall, gave the film a less than positive review.

Why?

I want to say it was mostly based on the marketing strategy, which focused the campaign to the obvious market- males 18-34. But it wasn't for them (the most common critique I've heard is, "Megan Fox doesn't even get naked. Why would they call it Jennifer's Body if she doesn't get naked? And it wasn't scary.") Well, that's because Jennifer's Body is a chick flick. No, its not for the same chicks that went and spent their $10 on Jennifer Aniston's new flick Love Happens this weekend, but rather a different crowd. I will easily hold Jennifer's Body side by side with Heather's, cause that's who this film will appeal to. Chicks who dig Heather's.

I strongly believe Jennifer's Body will, and has proven already, to be a huge cult fav. There's already a large rally of critics (mostly chicks) who have seen the negative reviews and instead of rolling with the masses said, "Wait, I really liked this flick, and here's why..."

JK, there's boobs.

This is made out of Sculpey, and painted with acrylic. I actually made the thing with a chop stick and a sewing needle. I can't find my lil sculpture tools, and I always had them handy (when I lived in Providence and I had to walk back to my apartment at 4 AM from the animation studio, I'd carry them around in my hand in case some fool tried to mess with this bitch... I'm sure they would have done little to protect me, but still...). Anyway, I'm still working on her, but as of right now whenever I look at her, all I think of is "Ida."

America's Best Dance Crew

If you've been watching America's Best Dance Crew this season, you may be familiar with the Beat Ya Feet Kings, the dance crew from D.C. The group is actually in the film I've been working on for the last year, TOE TO TOE. I've only caught two of the episodes they've been in, and one was when they were eliminated (the Bollywood challenge). I'm not really into song and dance shiz, but I have to admit they are a pretty talented bunch. You can check out more of the BYKF here at their MTV page.
